Today, we’ll get a glimpse into the foundation of Christian reverence at Bethany Beyond the Jodan, the venerated site of Jesus Christ’s baptism. We’ll admire sprawling vistas from Mount Nebo, where Moses shared his vision of the elusive Promised Land. In Madaba, we’ll visit St. George’s Church, whose Byzantine mosaics illustrates a glimpse into ancient history. Later, we’ll connect with the local community during a home-hosted lunch. We’ll experience traditional Jordanian hospitality and authentic home cooking as we share stories and connect with our hosts over a traditional meal. This afternoon, we’ll return to our hotel and enjoy time floating in the Dead Sea’s ethereal waters. (Breakfast and Lunch)

This morning we’ll meet with women at a cooperative that promotes the conservation of traditional crafts through the employment of Bedouin women. You can even participate in a hands-on lesson before lunch. Later, we’ll journey to Petra to check into our hotel. (Breakfast and Lunch)

This morning, we’ll beat the crowds and the heat of the sun with an early-morning tour of Petra’s archaeological remains (UNESCO). We’ll delve into this ancient crossroads with a local guide. The remainder of the day is yours to discover this “lost city” on your own with your Sisters. Maybe, you’ll want to ride a camel while you’re there!

This evening, we’ll join together for an authentic Arabic cooking class, where we’ll be able to enjoy our labors as we dine together. (Breakfast and Dinner)

This morning, we’ll make our way to Wadi Rum. We’ll cruise through the reserve on the back of private vehicles and take in the vast landscape around us. We’ll join for lunch at a local camp before returning back through the desert.

Later, we’ll travel to cross the border into Israel and arrive in Eilat. We’ll check into our hotel in the Marina. (Breakfast and Lunch)

Soak in the atmosphere as it’s your choice! Spend a morning at the Coral Beach Nature Reserve, snorkeling in the crystalline waters of the Red Sea -OR- relax aboard a glass bottom boat cruise on the Gulf of Aqaba in search for marine life.

This afternoon, we’ll set off in all-terrain vehicles for an exploration of the Arava Desert surrounding Eilat. Experience the desert landscape as we drive off-road into Solomon Wadi Valley and onto the viewpoint over the ancient Egyptian copper mines dated to the times of the biblical King Solomon. Immerse yourself in the silence and magic of the desert during a walk in one of the more absconded valleys before driving to the top of the Eilat Mountains. From this elevated position, enjoy the sunset and take in the spectacular view over the Red Sea and the Sinai Peninsula, traversed by Moses and the Jewish people during their 40-year wandering in the desert following Exodus from Egypt. Then, we’ll gather around a bonfire to share tea and freshly baked desert bread, while taking in expansive views over the 4 neighboring countries in the Gulf of Aqaba: Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Discover why the locals have so much pride in their ability to grow food in this harsh climate at Desert Agriculture Research Center in the Arava Valley, where we’ll learn about drip irrigation and other innovative techniques that allow crops to flourish in the desert. Travel to the desert fortress of Masada (UNESCO), perched upon a cliff next to the Dead Sea. With our guide, we’ll explore Herod’s Palace and the Roman Camp. Descend the ancient walls by cable car before continuing on to Jerusalem, our home for the next 3 nights. (Breakfast)

Today, we’ll begin our exploration of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, where you’ll marvel at the panoramic view of the Holy City, including the shining Dome of the Rock. Get ready to see Jerusalem on foot and embark on a comprehensive tour of the old city, covering multiple religions that have coexisted here for centuries. Pause at the Western (Wailing) Wall, follow the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa, and walk in the footsteps of millions before you. With the remainder of your day at leisure, delve into Jerusalem’s Shuk (the Bazaars of the Old City), with each narrow street dedicated to different trades passed down through generations. As you explore, breathe in the smell of freshly baked bread, roasting sesame seeds, and savory spices. (Breakfast)

Reflect on the sorrows of the past at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, followed by a poignant discussion with a Holocaust survivor. Later, we’ll venture to the Judean Hills and spend our afternoon in the city of Bethlehem. This historic city is known as the birthplace of Jesus. It is also regarded in Judaism as the hometown of King David, and where he was crowned as the king of Israel. Make your way through the town on foot with an expert guide. We’ll visit the historic Church of the Nativity, built upon the site of where Jesus was born. The church was constructed in the 4th century, and its weathered stone facades allude to its age. We’ll return to Jerusalem in the evening where the evening is yours to independently dine with your Sisters. (Breakfast)

We’ll head to Magdala, regarded to be the hometown of Mary Magdalene, and find an ancient city of stone carvings and excavated temples. Later, we’ll sail on the Sea of Gallilee in a historic replica boat before continuing on to the Mount of Beatitudes, an overlook where Jesus gave his famous Sermon of the Mount. We’ll end our day in Safed, a beautiful little town of weather-worn alleyways and one of Judaism’ Four Holy Cities. (Breakfast and Dinner)

Today, wander along rumbling waterfalls, quiet ponds, and temple ruins in Caesarea Philippi National Park. We’ll travel by apple orchards and green groves on our way to Majdal Shams, a town in Golan Heights. Get to know a variety of the local religions today, first meeting with a member of the Druze community to learn more about this mysterious and secretive sect of Islam. We’ll return to Safed for a walking tour led by an expert. Later, we’ll learn about Kabbalah’s mystical beliefs, providing another glimpse into a local religion. This evening, we’ll connect with one of the town’s Orthodox Jewish families over a home-hosted dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

After visiting the Basilica of the Annunciation, experience an exclusive meeting at a non-profit community center where local women lead a lesson on traditional crafts. Discover the nearby open-air market before enjoying a home-hosted lunch in a historic house, featuring Arab-Israeli favorites such as hummus, baba ghanoush, pastries, and more. This afternoon, we’ll head to the bustling waterfront city of Tel Aviv. The remainder of the day is yours for independent exploration and dining with your Sisters. (Breakfast and Lunch)

This morning, we’ll make our way through Tel Aviv’s historic section, Jaffa, passing by St. Peter’s Church, Wishing Bridge, Ramses Gate, and the unique Suspended Orange Tree. Then, we’ll taste our way through one of Tel Aviv’s lively street markets as we connect with the locals, getting a true taste of everyday life in this bustling Mediterranean city. This evening, we’ll toast to the end of our trip at a farewell reception in our hotel. (Breakfast & Lunch)

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY

  • International airfare is not included in your pricing. You will fly into Amman (AMM) and return from Tel Aviv (TLV). You may arrive and depart at any time on these days.
  • You will depart for Amman on November 2, 2024 and return from Tel Aviv on November 17, 2024.
  • All flight arrangements must be submitted to Sisterhood Travels on or before July 15, 2024. If you need help making flight arrangements, you can click here for Airfare Information.
  • Arrival transfers are provided only on November 2nd from the Amman airport to our hotel. Departure transfers are only provided on November 17th from our hotel to the Tel Aviv airport. If you arrive or depart outside these days and/or you’re needing transfers elsewhere, you are responsible for making your own arrangements at your own expense.
  • You must hold a passport that is valid for six months beyond November 17, 2024.
  • The border crossing between Jordan and Israel will take place on foot. We will be dropped off by our Tour Director at the Jordanian border, proceed through customs patrol and baggage security, and pay the Jordan departure tax in local currency, approximately 8 Jordanian Dinar (13 US Dollars) per person, subject to change without advance notice. We will be picked up at the Israeli border where we will meet the Tour Manager for the Israel portion of our tour. Our Tour Manager cannot assist with border crossing and all guests are responsible for handling their own luggage. The total walking distance is approximately 750 feet (200 meters). Rates are approximate and can be changed at any time based on governing authority. If you have a passport other than US, you must contact your consulate for information on whether you need a visa to enter Israel.
  • Please don’t schedule any optional excursions on your own for this trip, as we cannot promise that you will arrive in time at any location to make your independent excursion. Sisterhood Travels won’t be liable for any expense you incur because of this.
  • Gratuities for your Tour Managers and local guides are not included in your pricing. We will provide you with tipping guidelines for your trip.
  • Optional Travel Insurance is not included in your pricing. We will send you a quote via email.
  • We cannot accommodate wheelchairs or assistive mobility devices on this trip.

This is a moderately paced itinerary that involves some longer days and more activities. Expect some early hotel departures, and limited time for day time rest and rejuvenation as the itineraries are designed to ensure that you see as much as possible in these wonderful destinations. This may include longer coach journeys and guests should be able to join a walking tour lasting 1-2 hours with stops possibly over uneven terrain. Guests should have reasonable health and mobility and be comfortable with standing for longer periods of time with no difficulty.
