Sisterhood Travels Activity 2

Activity Level:

leisurely

This luxurious rail and sightseeing journey through the Canadian Rockies is ideal for women who enjoy a relaxed pace, breathtaking scenery, and occasional light walking. While most activities involve comfortable transportation by train or motorcoach, there are several days with gentle walking, standing for short periods, and getting on and off vehicles. This trip is a great fit for women who love nature, history, and upscale comfort without the need for strenuous physical activity.

Walking & Standing
Daily activities may include short walking tours through city streets, scenic overlooks, and national park sites such as Emerald Lake, Lake Louise, and the Columbia Icefield. Some sightseeing—such as visiting the Glacier Skywalk, riding the Banff Gondola, or exploring downtown Vancouver and Calgary—requires standing or walking on paved, gravel, or uneven paths for up to an hour at a time. Elevators are available at all major hotels, and pacing is leisurely. Participation in more active excursions, such as exploring the parks or additional hotel amenities like guided walks, is optional.

Terrain, Transport & Accommodations
You’ll travel in style aboard the Rocky Mountaineer in Gold Leaf Service, enjoying panoramic views, gourmet meals, and attentive service from your double-deck dome coach. Rail travel involves getting on and off the train and a short walk to/from overnight hotels in Kamloops. All motorcoach transfers are private and comfortable, with onboard commentary and photo stops. Accommodations range from upscale city hotels to iconic Fairmont resorts in Banff and Lake Louise, each offering full amenities, luggage service, and central access to attractions.

Scenic Highlights & Optional Activities
This itinerary is rich in natural beauty and cultural charm, with opportunities to explore the cities of Vancouver, Banff, and Calgary at your own pace. Optional experiences include spa treatments, guided nature walks, boutique shopping, or riding the Banff Gondola. The more adventurous may choose to walk portions of the interpretive trail at the Glacier Skywalk or explore trails around Lake Louise—though none are required for participation.

Altitude Considerations
Parts of this journey take place at higher elevations, especially in Lake Louise (5,249 ft / 1,600 m) and Banff (4,537 ft / 1,383 m). While most travelers experience little to no discomfort at these altitudes, you may notice mild symptoms such as shortness of breath or fatigue during physical activity. The pace of the trip is designed to be gentle, and plenty of rest opportunities are provided. Hydration, taking it slow, and avoiding strenuous exertion can help alleviate any mild effects of elevation.

Pacing & Free Time
This journey includes a mix of guided touring, breathtaking rail days, and ample free time for relaxation or personal exploration. Travel days are unhurried and scenic, with plenty of time to enjoy the views or socialize with your Sisters. While early mornings are required on train days, the overall pace is gentle, with downtime built into every destination.
