Activity Level:
Moderate
ACTIVITY LEVEL: 3 Moderate
This comprehensive journey through Switzerland is designed for women who are comfortable with a moderate level of activity balanced by scenic transportation, thoughtful pacing, and ample opportunities to rest and enjoy the surroundings.
Walking & Standing
You can expect walking on most days, particularly during guided city tours. Walking typically takes place on cobblestone streets, historic old towns, promenades, and village paths, with occasional stairs and gentle inclines. While distances are manageable and paced, you should be comfortable being on your feet for several hours at a time with breaks built in.
Terrain, Transport & Accommodations
The terrain throughout the trip varies from flat urban areas and lakeside promenades to alpine villages and mountain viewing areas. Transportation is a major highlight and includes luxury coaches, first-class panoramic trains, cogwheel railways, cable cars, and boat cruises, all of which significantly reduce the need for strenuous activity while still accessing high-altitude and remote locations. Hotels range from centrally located city properties to iconic alpine accommodations, including a luxury spa hotel in Vals and charming mountain hotels in Zermatt and Interlaken.
Pacing & Free Time
This itinerary is intentionally designed with a comfortable pace and a balance of guided sightseeing and independent time. Several afternoons and full days are free for you to explore at your own pace, relax at the hotel, enjoy spa facilities, or simply soak in the scenery with your Sisters. Long travel days, such as the Glacier Express journey, are spent seated in comfort with meals and incredible views, offering built-in rest while still being immersive and memorable.
Altitude Considerations
This journey includes several high-altitude experiences reached by train or cable car rather than hiking. Mount Pilatus reaches approximately 6,995 feet, Gornergrat about 10,000 feet, and Jungfraujoch approximately 11,300 feet above sea level. If you have concerns related to altitude, we recommend discussing this itinerary with your healthcare provider prior to travel.
