Today, arrive in beautiful Lisbon. After you go through passport control and customs and collect your bags, you’ll be met in the Arrivals Hall by your driver to transfer to our hotel. The rest of the day and evening is yours to relax and rejuvenate. You may wish to join your Group Leader for an informal get together with your Sisters this evening. (No meals included today)

This morning, we’ll start our day on foot with our Tour Director, walking to the public funicular. We’ll hop on and ride to the upper side of the downtown area where we can meander through historic neighborhoods, hearing the kinds of stories that bring the city – and its colorful neighborhoods – to life. We’ll walk to the Chiado neighborhood and embrace its elegant flair and bohemiam vibe, enroute to a local café where we’ll sit down for a tasting of typical Portuguese foods and savor the flavors of the city. After, we’ll head to the praca do Comercio in downtown Lisbon, one of the biggest squares in Europe. This gorgeous square flaunts colorful artwork and sculptures. Say cheers on the Tagus River for a truly unique way to experience Lisbon. We’ll sail by the Monument to the discoveries and the Tower of Belem (UNESCO) before crossing the river to see “Christ the King” statue. Enjoy some free time with your Sisters to independently explore before returning to the hotel by subway. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Today, after breakfast, we’ll take a step away from the bustling streets of Lisbon for an excursion to charming seaside Ericeira, once a thriving fishing village. This beach town is now world-renowned to surfers and that aesthetic can be seen everywhere from the coast to the cozy cafes. We’ll take some time to tour the quaint downtown with our Tour Director before we explore the beautiful town of Sintra (UNESCO), the summer residence of Portuguese kings. We’ll have some free time for independent exploration. After, we’ll venture to one of the most notable Romanticism-inspired landscapes in Portugal: the Park of Monserrate. You’ll find the pathways running between the ruins, lakes, and waterfalls into the property’s palace, which itself is the exotic dream of a 19th century British visionary. (Breakfast included)

This morning, we’ll depart Portugal’s capital city and head to Tomar, home of Portugal’s historical jewels, the Templar Castle, and Convent of Christ – a UNESCO World Heritage site. We’ll explore the octagonal Templars’ Rotunda and imagine the day-to-day life of a warrior monk in the domestic areas. Our next stop will be Porto. Be sure to take in the landscape as we embark on our two and half hour drive to Portugal’s second largest city. Upon arrival, we’ll check into our charming hotel, enjoy a port wine tasting, and experience a wonderful dinner together at a local restaurant. (Breakfast and Dinner included)

Today, an extensive walking tour of Porto reveals all of its many charms. See the Sao Bento Railway Station, which opened in 1916 and remains one of Portugal’s most striking stations. We’ll visit the Bolsa Palace (UNESCO), otherwise known as the Stock Exchange Palace, a 19th century Neoclassical masterpiece and finally, finish our morning crossing the river to Vila Nova de Gaia for a visit. You’ll get a taste for the port wine production scene with a tour and tasting. Later, we’ll get a different perspective on porto as we step across the threshold of our hosts’ home and inhale the tantalizing aroma of traditional Portuguese cooking. Enjoy the warm hospitality of a local family welcoming us with open arms, where we’ll savor a homemade meal seasoned with laughter and paired with delicious Portuguese wine. **If for any reason, the family is unable to accommodate our group, they will meet us at a local restaurant for a wonderful dinner).** (Breakfast, Tasting, and Dinner included)

This morning, we’ll travel to Braga and behold the “Bom Jesus do Monte” (UNESCO) – a sanctuary and Christian pilgrimage site in Tenões that boasts stunning Baroque architecture. After our group lunch, we’ll walk the narrow streets of the historic downtown. Many of Braga’s locals place great importance on religion and the city has one of the highest concentrations of churches in Portugal. After, the rest of the day is yours to explore and dine independently with your Sisters. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Today, we say “tchau” to Porto and set out for the Douro wine region where we’ll indulge ourselves on the grounds of a traditional winery for several nights. Enroute to Douro, we’ll stop in Amarante, a quaint town set on a bend in the Rio Tamega. From its balconied houses to its willow-lined riverbanks, this town is full of surprises. This afternoon, we’ll enjoy a cruise down the Douro River on a traditional wooden rabelo boat where you’ll marvel at the tows of twisting vines, lush trees, and colorful houses from a different perspective. Finally, step into your home for the next few nights in the heart of the Douro River Valley. Later, we’ll wander down to the cellar for a tasting before enjoying a dinner complete with locally sourced, traditional Portuguese cuisine. (Breakfast and Dinner included).

Enjoy a relaxed morning today. Then, roll up your sleeves and join a cooking class where of course, we’ll dine on our creations with a light lunch of petiscos (Portuguese tapas). This afternoon and evening is yours to enjoy independently with your Sisters. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Today, you’re in for a real treat! While the morning is yours to enjoy on the grounds of the winery or being pampered in the spa, this afternoon and evening, we’ll enjoy a guided visit to Quinta da Pacheca with a private tasting of 2 Douro and 2 Port Wines. Then, we’ll enjoy the traditional treading of grapes, followed by a private Traditional dinner. (Breakfast and Dinner included)

This morning, we’ll depart the lush Douro wine region and cross the border into Spain! Welcome to Salamanca after an approximate three-hour drive, where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. We’ll take a short walking tour and learn more about this ancient city that has over two thousand years of history and sandstone architecture. This evening, we’ll gather together for an authentic regional dinner. (Breakfast and Dinner included)

Today, we’ll leave for the famous Rioja wine region. On our way, we’ll stop in Burgos where we’ll get to know the city during a walking tour. From its pedestrian-friendly riverside to the historic Plaza Mayor, Burgos delivers a traditional Spanish experience. Enjoy free time with independent lunch with your Sisters. This evening, we’ll enjoy a wine tasting before savoring a farm-to-table tasting menu that highlights the local cuisine. (Breakfast and Dinner included)

This morning, it’s off to Pamplona, the capital of the Navarre province and home to the legendary Feast of San Fermin – the Running of the Bulls. Once every year, bulls are led through the city’s streets by daredevil runners and today, a local guide will take us on a city tour where we can hear all about is colorful, unique history before visiting the family home of a bullfighter. The bullfighter’s family will greet us in the traditional way – with light tapas and drinks – truly welcoming us into their world for a little while. During our visit, learn firsthand about bullfighting traditions, controversies and enjoy the chance to ask your own respectful questions. As we make our way back to stunning Rioja, we’ll stop at the Marques de Riscal Winery nestled in the center of Spain’s beautiful Basque country, one of the most fascinating wineries to behold with its famously avant-garde design. Taste some of the wines and walk the vineyards before we head back to our hotel where the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy with your Sisters. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

This morning, we’ll depart to San Sebastian, the iconic shoreline city in Basque Country. Upon arrival, we’ll set off on an extensive walking tour of San Sebastian, a coastal city that runs along the Bay of Biscay. Enjoy free time for lunch with your Sisters before we take a panoramic tour along the coastal road, finding picture-perfect views that will take your breath away. This evening, we’ll join together for authentic Basque Country cuisine at a local restaurant. (Breakfast and Dinner Included)

This morning, we’ll head to Bilbao to visit the world-renowned Guggenheim Museum, set along the Nervion River, and hailed as a true icon of architectural culture, with its contemporary design. See some of the modern art housed inside its fascinating walls. Then, we’ll take a walking tour of Bilbao’s old town where you can find historic old churches, festive markets and quintessential Spanish squares. Enjoy some free time with your Sisters before we return to San Sebastian. Tonight, we’ll gather together and toast to the end of our flavorful journey at a Farewell Dinner in a local restaurant. (Breakfast and Dinner Included)

Today, our tour of Portugal and Spain sadly comes to a close. We’ll be transferred to the San Sebastian airport for our return flights home. (Breakfast included)

This is a consistently robust itinerary that is likely to be filled with a combination of long, active days, several early hotel departures and some long journeys by coach. There may be limited time for rest and rejuvenation as you explore these amazing destinations. There may be multiple flights and travel by non-traditional means such as safari vehicles, rickshaws/pedicabs, etc. Guests should have reasonable health and mobility and be capable of walking 1-2 miles over time over potentially difficult terrain which may include hills. Guests should be comfortable with standing for longer periods of time with no difficulty.
