This morning, we’ll embark on our group flight to Lhasa, Tibet, known as the “Roof of the World.” Upon arrival, you’ll have the entire day to acclimatize to the high altitude, allowing your body to adjust to the thin mountain air. We’ll provide you with many tips on how to minimize any effects of the altitude, but don’t worry – there are no structured activities today. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Continue to today to acclimatize to the altitude. As you adjust, you’ll have the opportunity immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and spirituality of Lhasa by exploring Barkhor Street, a bustling marketplace encircling the sacred Jokhang Temple. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

This morning, we’ll begin our day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Potala Palace, an architectural marvel and former residence of the Dalai Lamas. Perched atop Red Hill, this UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts breathtaking views of Lhasa and houses countless treasures, from sacred relics to intricate murals. Next, we’ll explore the Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastic university of Tibet. Wander through its corridors and visit its majestic assembly halls, where monks gather for prayer and meditation amidst stunning Himalayan vistas. We’ll conclude our day at Sera Monastery, renowned for its lively debates among monks. Next, we’ll behold the majestic Karola Glacier, a towering mass of ice and snow set against the rugged Tibetan landscape. Upon arrival in Shigatze, we’ll delve into the region’s rich cultural heritage with a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. We’ll explore its ornate chapels, towering stupas, and intricate murals, gaining insight into Tibetan Buddhism and its profound spiritual traditions. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Rongbuk Monastery, nestled at an elevation of over 4980 meters (16,340 feet), is the highest monastery in the world and a sacred site along the route to Everest Base Camp. Situated near the base of Mount Everest in Tibet, this ancient monastery holds deep spiritual significance for Tibetan Buddhists and mountaineers alike. Founded in the 19th century, Rongbuk Monastery serves as a place of worship, meditation, and refuge for pilgrims and travelers journeying through the Himalayas. Its remote location amidst towering peaks and vast glaciers adds to its mystique and allure. We’ll have the unique opportunity to meet with Tibetan nuns. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

This morning, we’ll take our short group flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu, Nepal, where ancient history and vibrant culture converge. We’ll begin our exploration at Pashupatinath, nestled around the Bagmati River. This revered Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, exudes serenity amid its bustling ambiance. Witnessing cremation rituals along the sacred riverbank offers a profound glimpse into Nepalese customs and beliefs. We’ll conclude our day with a visit to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and a focal point of Tibetan Buddhist culture in Nepal. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Today, we’ll take a 30-minute scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara, we’ll be greeted by the serene waters of Phewa Lake and the majestic Annapurna range looming in the distance. After having some refreshments, we’ll be visiting Peace Pagoda, a symbol of peace and harmony, Designed to promote non-violence and unity, it features traditional architecture and serene surroundings. Next, we’ll head to the Tibetan Refugee Camp, which is a settlement established primarily in India and Nepal to provide refuge and support for Tibetans who fled their homeland following the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950. These camps aim to preserve Tibetan culture, traditions, and language, offering essential services such as education, healthcare, and vocational training. Life in these camps is often challenging due to limited resources and opportunities, but they serve as vital hubs for the Tibetan diaspora, fostering a sense of community and resilience among the refugees. Over the decades, these camps have also become centers for international advocacy and awareness regarding the Tibetan cause. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Early this morning, we’ll drive to Sarangkot which is one of the most popular tourist destinations from where we can capture the tranquil and magical view of the city before sunrise. Later, we’ve planned an action-packed day as we visit the Bindabasini Temple, Bat Cave, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, Devi’s Falls, Tal Barahi, and Fewa Lake. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

This morning, we’ll take a quick group flight back to Kathmandu and head straight to Chandragiri. After some sightseeing, we’ll take a drive to Swayambhunath, also known at The Monkey Temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and then on to Kathmandu Durbar Square – the ancient Royal residential quarter. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Today, we’ll take a group flight to Paro before embarking on a breathtaking journey from Paro to Thimphu, offering an immersive experience of Bhutan’s cultural and natural wonders. As the altitude fluctuates as we traverse through scenic valleys, lush forests, and winding mountain roads, you’ll also be treated to panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks and cascading waterfalls.
Next, we’ll visit the National Memorial Chorten, a sacred monument adorned with intricate carvings and prayer wheels before we transfer to the majestic Tashichho Dzong, an architectural masterpiece serving as both fortress and monastery and partake in the soul-stirring evening prayer ceremony, steeped in tradition and spirituality. Later, we’ll visit the Choki Traditional Art School and Handicraft, a private institute that provides free education to underprivileged youth who have a keen interest in learning traditional arts and crafts so that they can go on to become independent and contribute preserving Bhutan’s unique art and culture. After an early breakfast, we will begin our day by attending the Thimphu Annual Festival. Here, you’ll witness masked dances performed by monks and laymen as well as traditional Bhutanese music, elaborate costumes, and vibrant decorations.
Next, we’ll visit the imposing Giant Buddha Statue, standing tall at Kuensel Phodrang. Later in the afternoon, we’ll embark on a picturesque journey from Thimphu to Punakha where you can immerse yourself in the grandeur of Punakha Dzong, a majestic fortress- monastery strategically located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. We’ll continue our exploration with a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the “Temple of the Divine Madman.” We’ll take a short trek through lush rice paddies and charming hamlets to reach this revered pilgrimage site dedicated to Drukpa Kunley, a beloved saint known for his unconventional teachings and playful antics. Today we’ll journey to Gangtey Valley to unveil a realm of pristine natural beauty and spiritual serenity. First, we’ll explore the Gangtey Monastery, a sacred site that holds deep religious significance for Bhutanese Buddhists, serving as a center for meditation and religious study. Next, we’ll take a nature hike through the picturesque landscapes of the Valley where you’ll want to keep your eye out for native bird species, including the endangered, black-necked cranes. This morning, we’ll head out on a scenic journey from the Valley to the enchanting region of Bumthang, where we’ll delve into the heart of Bhutanese culture and spirituality with visits to Jakar Dzong and Kurjey Lhakhang. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

You’re in for a treat today as we set out on a cultural pilgrimage of the area, stopping at Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake), known to be magical and shrouded in mystery and folklore, and Tamshing Lhakhang. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Today will be spent making our return to Paro. Along the way, we’ll pay a visit to a local Farm House, which is a traditional village house. These farmhouses are very colorful, decorative, and traditionally built without the use of a single nail, and they all follow the same architectural pattern. We’ll enjoy a cup of tea and indulge in a delightful interaction with the local community. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

After an early breakfast, prepare for an exciting and spiritually enriching excursion to Taktsang Monastery, famously known as “Tiger’s Nest,” one of Bhutan’s most iconic and revered sites. It’s perched dramatically on the side of a cliff and is believed to be where Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Bhutanese Mahayana Buddhism, meditated after arriving here on the back of a tigress. The hike to Tiger’s Nest is an approximately 2-3 hour trek, depending on our pace. It’s a challenging but rewarding journey that takes us through lush forests and offers breathtaking views of the Paro Valley below. The cafeteria provides a close view of the monastery. A further and rather challenging hike leads us to the glorious Taktsang Monastery where you’ll have the opportunity to offer butter lamps at the Monastery. This is the most powerful offering because the light from the flame symbolizes the wisdom of the awakened mind and dispels the darkness of delusion and mental obscuration.
If time permits, we’ll visit the National Museum and Paro Dzong. This impressive dzong is the finest example of Bhutanese architecture and is one of the most popular and well-known dzongs in Bhutan.
This evening, we’ll enjoy a traditional hot stone bath at a Local Farm House. A traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath uses rocks taken from the river that are heated till red hot and then placed in the bath water. The rocks then crack and steam, releasing key minerals into the water that alleviate aches and pains and are said to have broader medicinal properties. This experience comprises a bath and massage that uses the heated river stones to help relieve deep aches and pains. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included)

Today, we’ll be transferred to the Paro airport for our group flight to Bangkok. Enjoy the rest of the day independently with your Sisters as you celebrate a most amazing adventure together. (Breakfast included)

This is an active itinerary packed with a combination of long, active days, several early hotel departures and long journeys by coach. The itinerary may also involve multiple flights and travel by non-traditional means such as safari vehicles, rickshaws/pedicabs, bicycles etc. Some accommodation may be based on authentic home stays, overnight camping and/or some basic rural hotels adding to the authenticity of the experience. Alternatively, it could include concentrated periods of more strenuous physical activity. Guests should be capable of walking 2-3 miles at a time over potentially difficult, uneven terrain which may include hills. Guests should have the appropriate levels of ability, fitness and good health to safely enjoy the trip.
