Activity Level:

Moderate

This journey is best described as a moderate activity level with seasonal winter considerations. It is thoughtfully paced and balanced with guided sightseeing, immersive Arctic experiences, and generous downtime, but it does require comfort with cold weather, walking on winter surfaces, and participation in a few active excursions.

Walking & Standing
Walking is an integral part of the experience, particularly in Helsinki and Tallinn, where sightseeing takes place on foot through historic city centers. Expect walking on cobblestone streets, uneven pavement, and occasional stairs, especially in Tallinn’s Old Town, including the Upper Old Town viewpoints. Daily walking distances are generally moderate and broken up with stops, meals, and free time, but guests should be comfortable being on their feet for several hours at a time on sightseeing days. Our resort in Lapland is widespread and getting from one area to another requires walking on snow and/or ice.

Terrain, Transport & Accommodations
Terrain varies throughout the journey. Urban walking in Helsinki and Tallinn includes flat areas mixed with uneven stone streets and winter conditions. In Lapland, terrain is snowy and icy, and activities take place in natural Arctic environments. Accommodations range from centrally located city hotels to rustic yet comfortable wilderness cabins and glass igloos, some of which may require short walks outdoors in cold conditions.

Included Experiences & Physical Requirements
Lapland activities such as the reindeer sleigh ride, Northern Lights chase, and husky safari are designed to be accessible and guided, but they do involve standing, balancing on snow, climbing in and out of sleds, and exposure to cold temperatures. Husky sledding requires the ability to stand, hold onto the sled, and follow basic instructions; sisters will rotate between riding and mushing. Thermal gear is provided, but participants should be prepared for extended time outdoors.
