Activity Level 4

Activity Level:

Busy

This immersive 18-day journey through Jordan and Egypt is designed for women who are comfortable with active days, early starts, uneven terrain, long drives, and navigating major archaeological sites. You’ll explore some of the world’s most iconic wonders including Petra, the Dead Sea, the Pyramids of Giza, and the Valley of the Kings, while also enjoying deeply meaningful cultural encounters, home-hosted meals, a Nile River cruise, and the warmth of Sisterhood community. This trip rewards flexibility, stamina, curiosity, and a genuine spirit of adventure.

Walking & Standing

Throughout Jordan and Egypt, expect moderate to extensive walking on most days, often over sand, gravel, rock, uneven stones, steps without railings, and sloped paths. Many archaeological sites restrict motorcoach access, so walking from parking areas into the monuments is required. At Petra, the walk through the Siq to the Treasury and through the wider site can cover several miles by midday. In Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, sandy and unpaved paths lead to tombs that require climbing steep stairs or ramps in narrow, enclosed spaces, which may be difficult for those with claustrophobia. Major sites like Karnak, Hatshepsut’s Temple, Giza, Edfu, and Kom Ombo also involve extended walking and standing with limited shade or seating. Guests should be comfortable walking two to three miles in a day and managing stairs or inclines without handrails.

Crowds, Sensory Conditions & Cultural Immersion

Major cities such as Amman and Cairo are lively, bustling capitals with busy sidewalks, traffic noise, and vibrant urban energy. Tourist zones, especially the Giza Plateau, Khan el-Khalili bazaar, the Valley of the Kings, and Petra, attract large crowds, particularly during peak morning hours. While early departures help us arrive before the heaviest groups, guests should still be prepared for tight spaces, noise, vendors, and fluctuating crowd movement. Archaeological sites in both countries are predominantly outdoors and exposed to the elements. Sun, wind, dust, and intermittent restrooms are part of the experience. Traveling by jeep, boat, felucca, or motorcoach provides wonderful vantage points, but each mode also comes with its own rhythms of boarding, balance, and navigating steps.

Terrain, Transport & Early Starts

This journey uses a variety of transportation including private motorcoach, domestic flights, jeeps, rickshaws, feluccas, small boats, and a Nile River cruise. Guests must be able to board all vehicles unassisted, often via narrow steps or platforms. Early mornings are a core part of the itinerary. To access major sites in cooler, less crowded hours, departures often occur between 5:30–7:30 a.m. Certain days require very early wakeups due to limited regional flight schedules: the Jordan–Egypt flight may depart as early as 4:30 a.m., Cairo–Luxor around 5:30 a.m., and Aswan–Cairo around 6:00 a.m. These early starts are essential for comfortable and efficient site access. Long road transfers are also part of the experience. In Jordan, expect approximately 4.5 hours from Amman to Petra and about 6 hours from Petra to the Dead Sea. In Egypt, the drive between Cairo and Alexandria can exceed four hours, depending on traffic and routing.

Pacing & Accommodations

While this itinerary includes several long sightseeing days and early departures, the pacing is balanced with restorative hotel stays, scenic drives, meaningful cultural connections, and a leisurely four-night Nile cruise. Accommodations are upscale 4- and 5-star hotels and ships selected for comfort, atmosphere, and access to key landmarks. Meals feature a rich range of Jordanian and Egyptian cuisine, including home-hosted meals and elegant onboard dining. Guests will have pockets of downtime throughout the itinerary to relax, reflect, and connect with one another.
