PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY
This tour is ideal for travelers who enjoy combining active exploration with some walking and occasional short hikes. Here’s a realistic look at the physical requirements based on the itinerary:
Walking and Standing: Many days include walking tours through historic cities, UNESCO sites, and local villages. For example, exploring Old Baku, Shaki’s Khan Palace, Tbilisi’s Old Town, and Uplistsikhe involves uneven cobblestone streets, gentle slopes, and periods of standing. Some sites, such as the Maiden Tower and Narikala Fortress, may involve stairs or steep paths.
Short Hikes and Outdoor Exploration: Visits to Gobustan’s petroglyphs, Gergeti Church in the Caucasus Mountains, and Noravank Monastery may require walking uphill or over uneven terrain, but these are generally short distances. The cable car ride to Tatev Monastery and other scenic stops include light walking to viewpoints.
Scenic Drives and Altitude: Several long but scenic drives, particularly in the Caucasus Mountains, are part of the journey. Locations like Gudauri and Kazbegi involve higher altitudes, which may cause mild fatigue or shortness of breath for some. Staying hydrated and pacing yourself can help mitigate this.
Independent Exploration: Free time allows for relaxation, but optional activities like visiting markets or exploring city streets on foot require comfort with moderate walking.
This tour is well-suited for travelers comfortable with several hours of light walking interspersed with rest breaks and scenic drives. It offers a rich cultural and historical experience balanced with leisure time, making it accessible for most participants who are reasonably active and mobile.
