Activity Level:

Moderate

Our journey through Ireland offers a balanced mix of guided sightseeing, cultural experiences, and free time, with regular walking and full days of exploration. Travelers should be comfortable being on their feet for extended periods, navigating historic areas, and managing occasional physical challenges associated with older sites and natural landscapes.

Walking and Standing
You can expect daily walking that ranges from approximately 1 to 3 hours, often broken up throughout the day. Guided tours include walking through historic districts where motorcoach access is limited. Standing for periods of time is common during sightseeing and guided commentary. At sites such as the Giant’s Causeway and Cliffs of Moher, walking distances may vary depending on how much you choose to explore.

Stairs and Physical Challenges
Certain experiences on this itinerary require additional physical effort. At Blarney Castle, those wishing to kiss the Blarney Stone must climb 128 narrow, winding stone steps to the top and descend the same way. This staircase is steep, enclosed, and may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns or a fear of tight spaces. Participation is optional.

Terrain and Conditions
Much of the walking takes place on uneven terrain, including cobblestone streets, historic pathways, and natural landscapes. At the Cliffs of Moher, pathways can be uneven and exposed, and conditions at the top are often very windy.

Transportation and Travel Days
This itinerary includes several longer travel days by motorcoach as you move between regions of Ireland and Northern Ireland. These drives are scenic and broken up with stops, but travelers should be comfortable spending multiple hours on the coach throughout the journey.

Accommodations
Hotels throughout Ireland may differ from what you are accustomed to in the United States. Guest rooms can be smaller, particularly in historic properties, and air conditioning is not always available. Bathrooms often feature high-sided bathtubs that require stepping in and out to shower, which may require extra care and balance.
