From Coastlines to Culture: A Women-Only Exploration of Southern Italy
There’s a reason women fall in love with Southern Italy.
Maybe it’s the colorful villages perched above the sea, the scent of lemons drifting through the air, or the way life in Southern Italy seems to slow down just enough to savor it all. Long dinners filled with wine and laughter, seaside strolls at sunset, conversations that linger late into the evening, and the warmth of both the people and the experience itself — this part of Italy has a way of making you feel completely present. And when shared with an incredible group of women, the journey becomes even more meaningful, creating the kind of memories and friendships that stay with you long after you return home.
On this women-only journey through the Amalfi Coast, Matera, and Puglia, we’ll experience the Italy most travelers dream about — cruising to Capri across the sparkling Bay of Naples, wandering the cliffside streets of Positano, sipping limoncello in Minori, exploring ancient cave dwellings in Matera, and sleeping beneath the cone-shaped rooftops of Alberobello’s magical trulli houses. Along the way, we’ll discover hidden corners of southern Italy through its food, music, traditions, breathtaking coastlines, and charming villages that feel untouched by time.
Some trips stay with you forever. This is one of them. If Southern Italy is calling you, now is the time to answer.

This immersive Southern Italy journey features a fast-moving combination of historic cities, coastal villages, ferry travel, walking tours, unique accommodations, and frequent hotel changes across several regions of Italy. Travelers should be prepared for full sightseeing days, daily walking on uneven terrain, numerous stairs, and navigating historic towns where vehicles often cannot access narrow streets. While there is free time built into portions of the itinerary, this tour is best suited for active travelers who are comfortable being on their feet for extended periods and managing the physical realities of Southern Europe’s older and more scenic destinations.
Expect daily walking ranging from approximately 1 to 3 miles throughout the day, often over uneven cobblestone streets, stone pathways, and pedestrian-only historic centers. Standing for periods of time is common during sightseeing, museum visits, ferry boarding, and local cultural experiences.
Southern Italy’s historic towns are incredibly beautiful but often feature steep inclines, uneven pavement, stone staircases, narrow alleyways, and cobblestone streets that can be slippery or uneven. In several smaller towns, including portions of the Amalfi Coast, Matera, and Alberobello, large coaches cannot navigate the narrow roads. Travelers should expect short walks between drop-off points and their hotels while handling personal belongings. Matera’s ancient Sassi district is particularly atmospheric but physically demanding in places, with winding stone streets, uneven surfaces, hills, and numerous staircases throughout the city.
The scenic Path of Lemons experience along the Amalfi Coast is approximately 2.4 miles (3.8 kilometers) long and includes multiple flights of stairs along historic hillside pathways between Minori and Maiori. Travelers should be comfortable with moderate uphill and downhill walking in warm Mediterranean conditions. A boat option will be provided for those who prefer not to participate in the hike. The hike and/or boat excursion may be modified or canceled due to inclement weather or adverse sea conditions.
This itinerary includes several ferry and boat rides, including excursions to Capri and along the Amalfi Coast. Boarding and disembarking ferries may involve ramps, uneven dock surfaces, or steps. Sea conditions can occasionally be rough, particularly along the Amalfi Coast. Travelers prone to motion sickness may wish to bring appropriate medication.
This itinerary includes unique and authentic accommodations designed to fully immerse travelers in the character of Southern Italy. In Matera and Alberobello, accommodations are often “scattered hotels” or albergo diffuso-style properties, where guest rooms are spread among multiple historic buildings within walking distance of a central reception area. Due to limited vehicle access in these historic districts, there may be short walks with luggage from the motorcoach drop-off point to the hotel. Rooms in these historic properties are often unique in size, layout, and design, reflecting the history and architecture of the destination. Some rooms may feature stairs, uneven flooring, compact bathrooms, or limited elevator access. In Matera, cave-style accommodations may also include stone staircases and uneven surfaces.
